Rhumb Line - August 2008

News From Willsboro Bay Marina

Plan Ahead for Next Spring

Mark your calendar - we will begin accepting launch scheduling requests at 9:00 am on Monday, April 20,2009.

2009 Dock Deposit Reminder

We do not send bills for the dockage deposit to reserve your slip for next summer; please send your deposit of $650.00 by September 1, 2008 to reserve your slip.

Fall Letter

Although there are a couple months of fine boating left, it's time to begin planning for our fall haul-out season. It's also time to reserve your dock space for next summer, too. We've posted the following three documents online in PDF (Adobe Reader) format for you to review: Steel Cradle Blocking

The same three documents are also available in DOC (Microsoft Word) format: Completed forms may be e-mailed to the accounting department.

New Bank Rule for Cheques Drawn on Canadian Banks

Please see this important notice about payment cheques drawn on Canadian banks.

Contact Information Sheet

We have included our Information Sheet in our fall information request. We request that each client fully complete and return the form this one time, even if we already have the information on file and nothing has changed. Once this has been done, we will simply ask for changes and corrections (rather than the complete form) on an annual basis.

Steel Cradle Blocking

Willsboro Bay Marina offers steel blocking for cradles which will be welded to steel cradles only at $350 plus sales tax per cradle. These blocks offer more stability and reliability than wooden blocks and will be a permanent part of your cradle. Steel cradle blocking is required for all new winter storage clients with cradles that are carried on our hydraulic trailers. Please contact marina staff to see examples or to order your blocking.

WiFi Possibility

We are contemplating the installation of WiFi wireless internet access for next summer. Since cable internet and DSL are not available here, we must lease a T1 line at a cost of over $7,000 per year to be able to provide this service. We need at least 50 marina members to commit to purchasing WiFi access next summer at $50 per month for a minimum of two months to justify the cost of offering this service. If you are willing to make this commitment, please check the appropriate box on the dockage request form.

Shrinkwrapping

B & A Shrinkwrap will offer shrinkwrapping services again and will bill you directly for their services. Please contact Bryant Laferriere directly at 518-963-4676 for rates and further information. Although they are independent of the marina we will forward your shrinkwrap request and your contact information to them for your convenience if you check off the "shrinkwrap" box on the Haul Out & Service Request form. B & A Shrinkwrap does not offer unwrapping services in the spring; however, the marina will offer unwrapping services next spring on weekdays only with at least 7 days advance notice and we will bill for these services upon completion.

The marina will not permit shrinkwrap disposal in our dumpsters. We participate in a shrinkwrap recycling program; recycling kits are available for purchase at the marina store. Disposal fees will be billed for all shrinkwrap found in our dumpsters or left at the marina.

Boat Covers and Tarps

Quinte Canvas - Top Shop, Inc (telephone 613-384-6316 or 800-268-4186) manufacturers custom fitted boat covers with frames.

Keith & Kellie Porter of Adirondack Canvas Works (telephone 518-561-8602) operate the canvas shop located at Willsboro Bay Marina. They sell cockpit covers and also install and remove existing tarps and custom fitted boat covers.

Battery Services

The marina does not offering battery storage or charging services inside our buildings due to safety regulations. We can assist you by disconnecting and reconnecting batteries, testing them and adding water, and removing batteries for you to store at your home. Do not remove your batteries before winterizing is completed. Please contact us if you need advice or assistance with caring for your batteries.

Important Notice: Oil & Filter and Fuel Filter Changes

Oil & oil filter changes and fuel filter changes should be scheduled for the period ending September 1, 2008. We will not be performing these services after September 1, 2008. Oil & oil filter and fuel filter changes are not part of winterizing and we do not perform them during the months of September and October, nor do we perform them at haul out.

If you would like oil & oil filter changes or fuel filter changes performed on your boat, please contact the service department to request this work, or submit a work order through the marina store. We will schedule oil & filter changes to avoid interfering with your use of the boat. Please be sure to accompany your service request with any time or date restrictions. Note that small trailerable powerboats are not subject to this change; we will continue to service these boats' engines when we winterize them.

Winterizing of engines, stern drives, outboards, and water cooled equipment will be performed at haul out. These winterizing services should be requested on the haul-out and winterizing request form.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please contact us promptly to ensure that we will have time to service your engines.

Package Acceptance

We do not offer mail port or package acceptance services; please do not have any packages or mail sent to you at the marina. Our policy is to refuse all packages sent to us. If a package is accepted in error or due to extenuating circumstances there will be a fee for accepting, handling and storing the package. The fee will be substantial if the package is from a competing seller of boating supplies, accessories or parts. The marina is not responsible for damages, shortages or loss to packages, and unclaimed packages will be discarded after 30 days. Our service department's policy is not to install equipment or use supplies purchased elsewhere or from our competitors. Please purchase your equipment and supplies from us if you would like us to install or use them. Under extenuating circumstances we may elect to install equipment or use supplies purchased elsewhere, however, a surchage of 15% of the retail price of the materials will be added to the cost of the job.
